What's happening to house prices?

The latest official data from the Land Registry shows four month-on-month increases.
 
With the average UK house price standing at £291,000 in August, this isn't far off the all-time high recorded in November 2022, which was £293,000.
 

Annually, England as a whole recorded stagnant growth at 0% over the 12 months from August 2022 to 2023, but the West Midlands showed a rise of +1.1 percent.
